Birmingham to Mountain Brook Historic Hike will be held on May 8, 2021 starting at 6:30 am.

The last few years, Scouts from Vulcan and Shelby Districts have enjoyed the 10 Mile Downtown History Hike that commences at IPC Church on Highland Avenue and winds it’s way through historic sites and sky scrappers in Downtown Birmingham, making a loop back to IPC’s finish line.

This year, we are offering an additional route that winds itself through beautiful neighborhoods, past immaculate golf courses, two of our Scout Huts, the Mountain Brook Fire Department in Crestline Village, with a grand finale for the 20 mile crew at Scout HQ at Liberty Park.

Hikers will meet at IPC Church (3100 Highland Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205) at 6:30 AM on 5/8/21, and kick off the hike towards the first of many sites, Sloss Furnace. We are timing the 10 mile hike route to make a stop at the scenic overlook of Downtown by 11:30 AM, before the 20 mile crew splits off for the Mountain Brook leg. The 20 mile crew should arrive at Liberty Park by 6:00 PM.

Adult volunteers will be present to guide the hike, shuttle stragglers, and care for minor first aid needs, but adults are encouraged to come along for the exercise and insure that their youth have rides home from the finish points of IPC and Liberty Park. We will not have the resources to supervise lone Scouts at these points.

Wanda Ellenberger, Steve Ray, Glen and JoAnna Merchant, and Brett Noerager are the primary leaders and we need additional adult support to bolster supervision and safety. Prior to committing to this fun outing and Merit Badge requirement, please reach out to Wanda or Steve for additional information. The routing is highlighted below and registered hikers will be included on future planning emails and adverse weather plans.

To RSVP, get more info and merit badge requirements should contact Steve Ray, 205-296-5291, steve@raybuildingcompany.com or Wanda Ellenberger, 205-529-2491, wanda@theelllenbergers.com.
