The Dirty Dozen Wilderness Hike Challenge is sponsored by the Southeast District of the Wilderness Society for their 50th anniversary. The challenge is to hike 10+ miles in 12 different wilderness areas in the southeast. These wilderness areas are located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
What if the Wilderness area you chose does not have a continuous 10 mile hike? You can piece together 10+ miles in a Wilderness Area over several shorter hikes. Round-trip mileage can be considered toward the 10+-mile requirement.
This event started in September 2014 and ends in September 2015. If you are interested in completing this challenge you need to get started now. To join the challenge you must:
- Register to participate via the Dirty Dozen Hike Challenge online form.Then, as you complete hikes, submit the Wilderness Experience Submission Form online for each hike you complete. This form must be submitted along with

- You will be asked to submit one photo for each Wilderness Area hike you complete. Send a photo of your hike: of you on your hike, or something awesome you saw along the way somewhere along the trail. You can also submit additional photos with your Hike Experience Submission Form, which will be considered for our best photo prizes at the end of the challenge.
