On Saturday, December 22 some of us met at the Waffle House at 5:30 AM outside of Oak Mountain State Park for a hardy breakfast before meeting the others in our group of 43 Scouts and Scouters and proceeding to the South Trailhead where we began hiking at 7:00 o’clock. Everyone was in great spirits and the column stayed tight the whole day. Two Scouters had to leave at the North trailhead and we finished 20 1/2 miles at 5:20 having hiked the Yellow, Blue, White, Red
We passed quite a few trail runners and a half dozen scouts said they would like to run it next year. I told them that when it was only Troop 28 doing the hike that we used to have 4 or 5 boys every year that ran it with some dads. They finished at 1:00 instead of 5:00. I will be looking for at least 3 adults next year to run with the Scouts.
