Thanks to everyone who showed up at Avondale Park on January 9 for our annual Vulcan Day of Service. Land was cleared of privet and other invasive plants above the amphitheater and below the villa. The Boy Scouts had 56 youth and 19 adults attend. The Cub Scouts brought 53 youth and 40 adults. These 168 volunteers put in a total of 517 hours at the park.

The annual Vulcan District Service Project has become a great way for our scouters and scouters to give back to our community and to start our new year in service. On the first Saturday of the year, Vulcan District Scouts gather at the project site for day of service. Our past projects have included the Lakeshore Trail in Homewood, Red Mountain Park, and Ruffner Mountain Park.

Next years project will be on January 7 at a location to be determined later. Leaders, we would like you to make this a unit project where you bring the whole troop or pack. Add it to your calendar now.
