Vulcan Service Day

2023 Vulcan District Day of Service
January 28, 2023

Greater Birmingham Humane Society
300 Snow Drive, Birmingham, 35209

Starts at 9:00AM

Do you have a dog or cat that is your best friend; always there, providing you with unconditional love and companionship? Scout parents, do you have fond memories of a childhood pet? If so, this project will afford you an opportunity to “pay it forward” to dogs and cats that have been abandoned and/or abused, and are awaiting adoption. Your efforts will substantially enhance the quality of life of literally 15,000+ dogs and cats that transition thru GBHS annually.

Location: Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS), 300 Snow Drive, Birmingham, 35209

Date & start time: Saturday, January 28th starting at 9:00AM – Troops and Packs will start simultaneously.

Parking: when entering Snow Drive from W. Oxmoor Rd parking is available in either of the following locations.

  • In the CR Home Alabama [223 W. Oxmoor Rd, Birmingham] parking lot located immediately to the right as you turn on to Snow Drive.
  • Along the curb on the right side of Snow Drive.

Equipment and scouts can be dropped off at the “T” on Snow Drive (the bottom of the road leading to the GBHS Adoption Center).

Tools & equipment: we will need some specialized tools to pull this off. Namely, chainsaws (with protective gear), shovels, wheelbarrows, pickaxes and come-alongs. I have set up a Google Form to determine who can bring what. If you can bring any of the tools mentioned, please go to the link below and specify what you can provide.

Fencing: Using GoFundMe donations, a licensed contractor will complete repairs to the play area fencing. Any contributions you can make to further this effort would be greatly appreciated. Every donation gets us a step closer to our goal, so please consider making a donation if you can!

Picnic benches: Construct two six foot long picnic tables.
The District is recruiting one – two troops/packs to construct two six-foot picnic tables for use by potential adoptees when visiting with dogs in the small pens. If your troop or pack desires to champion this project, please contact Dave Caskey dave.caskey@troop320bsa.com
