Last month (February 2016), Troop 320 went on a fantastic three day, two night backpacking trip on the Pinhoti Trail. The trip was designed for older scouts and to prepare those who are going to Philmont this summer. There were 11 scouts and 5 adults on the trip. We began our northeasterly hike at mile 155.0 near Piedmont, Alabama. Davis Mtn. and Flagpole Mtn. were the major mountains we hiked over. I am proud to announce that the weather was very nice to us by descending to 18 degrees on the second night, allowing us to earn Polar Bear badges. When we crossed the Alabama-Georgia border, Mr. Anderson, who has been hiking this trail in segments for years, completed his last leg of the entire Pinhoti trail in Alabama. A few shelters were built along the trail, one of which had some supplies (toilet paper, lighters, journal, etc…). We ended our hike at a beautiful small town called Cave Spring, Georgia. We hiked 26.3 miles over three days!
