With the scare of the pandemic looming and schools, events, gatherings canceled, now is a great time for scouting.
Troop 193, Oakmont Chapel Presbyterian Church, Hoover, held their inaugural eMeeting Tuesday.
From the gathering activity to the benediction, the troop meeting was conducted virtually through a video/audio program. The scouts worked through rank advancements and, for a bit, just enjoyed being together.
“The normalcy of gathering was refreshing to both scouts and leaders. No one quite knows where this situation will ultimately lead and when we can get back to our regular lives. This is a great way to keep out scouts mentally awake”-Scoutmaster, Wanda Ellenberger. “We plan to continue weekly meetings in this forum and, because it went so well and was so enthusiastically accepted by the girls, we will be offering virtual merit badge classes starting this weekend. It’s a great time to be a scout. We are blessed to have this venue available to us. I hope other BSA units will take my advise and try virtual meetings. The scouts deserve no less. “
